Sauratown Mountain Fire Response List and Thank you
From the Chief

On behalf of the Board of Directors, Officers, and members of the Sauratown Volunteer Fire Department I would like to formally welcome you to our website. We here at the Sauratown Volunteer Fire Department have a proud tradition, since 1963 in serving the citizens in the Flinty Knoll, Cappella, Mt. Olive and Quaker Gap Community. This is also known as the Sauratown community, located north of King between Hanging Rock and Sauratown Mountain; hence our name.

As Fire Chief I have the opportunity to serve in a community with a fine group of men and women. The responsibilities of the Fire Department are constantly changing and grown from just “fighting fires”. Today, we have become a “catch all” capacity and are responding to a variety of calls from EMS assist, Hazardous Materials incidents, motor vehicle accidents etc.

While we work and carry out our duties to provide a safe and healthy community. We are constantly reminded of how dangerous and ever changing the world is and how valuable life is with the tragic events of September 11th, 2001 and recently on March 7th, 2008 2 firefighters from Salisbury Fire Department lost there life. It reminds us of how fragile and short life is and protecting lives and property can have such a high price. Our members are devoted day and night to provide the highest standard of professionalism to keep each of you safe.

We are only as good as the members who serve and I can firmly say that your Fire Department is prepared to meet the challenges ahead, and I am proud to be your Chief.

After viewing our web site should you have any questions or comments feel free to contact me. Again, thank you for stopping by.

James Griffin, Chief 2008 - Present
